JP Trophy: Bradford City dump Huddersfield out on penalties, Sheffield United edge past Rotherham United

Bradford City and Sheffield United have prevailed in the two Yorkshire derbies played Tuesday night in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy northern area, second round.

Bradford City defeated West Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town in a dramatic penalty shootout at the Galpharm Stadium.

After a 2-2 draw in 90 minutes, Mark Stewart, Kyel Reid, Robbie Threlfall and Nialle Rodney scored from the spot for the Bantams, even though Michael Flynn missed their first penalty.

Antony Kay and Tommy Miller missed for Town. Their scorers from the spot were Lee Novak, Daniel Ward and Alan Lee, but it was not enough as the League Two strugglers took the scalp of the high-flying League One side.

All the goals in regulation play came in a 15-minute period in the second half.

A Kay own goal on 55 minutes gave Bradford the lead before Miller levelled on 63 from the penalty spot.

However, Luke Oliver restored the Bantams lead within a minute, only for Peter Clarke to equalise again on 70 minutes.

Sheffield United have knocked out South Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United thanks to a last-minute goal.

Wales striker Ched Evans popped up in the 90th minute to break Rotherham hearts and send the Blades through.

Chris Porter gave League One side Sheffield United the lead in the ninth minute

But Alex Revell levelled for the League Two Millers on 69 minutes.

The game was headed for penalties at the Don Valley Stadium before Evans popped up with the winner.
