The Leeds United defender is continuing his footballing education at Valley Parade in 2020-21, but remains very much in the long-term thoughts of those at Elland Road.

That is reflected by the fact that the 21-year-old has signed a new deal with United. He is now contracted at the club until the summer of 2022.

On Hosannah’s time so far at City, manager Stuart McCall quipped: “I saw it on the TV and was kidding him on that I got a call from Mr Bielsa saying that he was not getting a deal until he came here as I turned him into a top-class full-back!

“I think it was always on the cards that he was going to get another deal.

“He has settled in really well,” he said.

“He is quiet and unassuming, but has obviously got good ability going forward and in one-on-one defending, he has got the pace.

“He just needed to learn – especially as he is a young player – defensive positions at times. But as he has been playing with us as a wing-back, we expect him to do more going forward than defending, really.

“But he is certainly a good one for the future and we are delighted to have him.”

Injury-hit winger Zeli Ismail is back in the fray for City’s weekend home game with Exeter City, with Gareth Evans also set to hand McCall a further boost by returning to training on Monday.

Kurtis Guthrie is likely to return to the first-team pool later this month, while Lee Novak is expected to be sidelined for ‘a little bit longer’, according to McCall.
