Peter Jackson resigns as Bradford City manager

The 50-year-old has seen the Bantams collect just one point from their opening four npower League Two games and lose to neighbours Leeds in the Carling Cup first round.

The Bradford-born former defender began his playing career at Valley Parade and was installed as permanent manager at the end of last season.

He had been in temporary charge since Peter Taylor left the club in February and led the Bantams to four wins from 14 games and an 18th-place League Two finish during his caretaker spell last season.

Jackson, who has previously managed Lincoln, before which he spent two spells as boss of Huddersfield, quit at a board meeting on Thursday, becoming the first manager to depart his position in the Football League this term.

A club statement said: “At a club board meeting today, the football club can confirm that first-team manager Peter Jackson has tendered his resignation. This was duly accepted by the board.

“Peter told the board that in light of the poor start to the season, he felt that to resign now would give the club that best possible chance for the rest of the season.

“The board would like to thank Peter for his hard work in keeping the club in the Football League last season, and wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Bradford play Barnet on Saturday at Valley Parade.
