Plenty of Yorkshire interest in monthly Football League awards

Hull boss Steve Bruce is the frontrunner for the Championship manager of the month accolade after presiding over an outstanding October for the Tigers, who went unbeaten in five matches and took 13 points from a possible 15.

Hull triumphed at Nottingham Forest and MK Dons and also did not concede a goal in home wins over Ipswich and Birmingham, with their only concession coming in a televised derby draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

Bruce’s side also booked their place in the last eight of the Capital One Cup with a penalty shoot-out victory over Leicester, with the Tigers unbeaten in their past nine games.

Like Bruce, one of his rivals for the gong, Derby’s Paul Clement, claimed a bumper haul of 13 points out of 15 last month for the Rams, who have not seen their colours lowered for ten games.

Brentford’s Lee Carsley and Burnley’s Sean Dyche are also in the running, with the latter - like Bruce and Clement - securing four wins and a draw in an unbeaten October.

The winner will be announced on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, in-form Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan is among four nominees for the Championship player of the month accolade for October.

The Scot has been an integral cog of a rejuvenated Owls side who are unbeaten in 11 matches, with the midfielder outstanding in last week’s fine Capital One Cup win over Arsenal.

Other nominees are Burnley striker Andre Gray, who hit the net five times last month, netting goals against Rotherham and Huddersfield, Brentford schemer Alan Judge, and veteran Birmingham defender Paul Robinson.

Bradford boss Phil Parkinson is the running for the League One manager’s gong - along with Wigan’s Gary Caldwell, Scunthorpe chief Mark Robins and Chesterfield boss Dean Saunders.

The Bantams went unbeaten in October, taking 11 points from five matches.

Bradford loan defender Reece Burke, in immaculate form of late in a City line-up who conceded just three times in five games, is one of four nominees for the player-of-the month accolade in the third tier.

The other three candidates are in-form Coventry marksman Adam Armstrong, Millwall raider Aiden O’Brien and Peterborough midfielder Jon Taylor.
