The Millers player helped the South Yorkshire club to two vital victories over the Capital One Cup finalists last year.

He scored as Rotherham thrashed Bradford at the New York Stadium in the late summer before helping Steve Evans’s side to a 2-0 win at Valley Parade in the Spring that sent the Millers towards promotion.

“Taking on about four of their players and bending it in the far corner off the post has to be the best memory,” said Pringle.

“And the second game was Kieran Agard running the length of the field and putting it into an empty net. That was the moment we realised we were going to get promoted. To go there and win was the turning point for us.”

That win over Bradford in April sparked a proud unbeaten sequence that lasted 13 League games, encompassing five at the end of last season and eight to start the League One campaign.

Since losing to Peterborough at the end of September, Rotherham have won only once in the League and have not claimed three points for five games.

But they have been strong in Cup competitions, defeating Sheffield Wednesday in the first round of the Capital One Cup before bowing out at Aston Villa.

They also face Hartlepool on Tuesday in the Johnstone Paint’s Trophy northern area quarter-final.

“The cups give us a nice break away from the league. There’s not all the pressure on us getting out of the slump and having to win.

“I didn’t think a dip would come this early but, hopefully, we can get it out of the way now and finish strongly come the end of the season.”

Bradford were the undoubted story of last season’s Cup competitions thanks to a stunning run to the final of the Capital One Cup at Wembley.

City played 15 Cup ties en route to also reaching the Northern Area semi-finals of the JP Trophy and the FA Cup second round.

City chief Phil Parkinson said: “We would love to go on a run. Hartlepool this season (JP Trophy) was massively disappointing while we were slightly unfortunate against Huddersfield (League Cup). We have not had a great deal of success against Rotherham of late but they have been good games. We have to be up for this one. I am sure it will be feisty and we are looking forward to it.”
