Syers’s appeal over red card thrown out by FA

DAVID SYERS will miss Bradford City’s next three matches after the Football Association rejected the club’s appeal over the midfielder’s sending-off against Shrewsbury Town.

Bradford had submitted written testimonies from Syers and City boss Phil Parkinson, along with a video clip of the incident, in an attempt to persuade the FA’s disciplinary panel to overturn the original red card.

But the FA decided to uphold the ruling of referee Dean Mohareb, which means Syers will miss Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Watford followed by the League Two double-header against Morecambe and Burton Albion.

Parkinson commented: “Having seen the incident in real time and on the match DVD afterwards, it is clear to see that David has won the ball clearly.

“Contrary to the referee’s report on the incident, Dave does not lunge into the tackle or show his studs.

“He slides in with the side of his foot showing – not with his studs showing as suggested – and he clearly dispossesses their player.

“I can’t think how Dave could have gone into that sort of challenge in any fairer manner.”

Parkinson added: “Yes, he could have chosen not to make the tackle, but all Dave has shown with that tackle is the honest effort and endeavour that we love in English football.

“Dave has a great disciplinary record and is a great professional for our younger players at the club to look to as an inspiration.”

n Ipswich striker Tamas Priskin has returned to Portman Road following his loan spell at Derby.

Hungary international Priskin joined the Rams in November and scored on his debut in a 3-1 defeat at West Ham.

The 25-year-old made five appearances for Nigel Clough’s side, but failed to add to his goal against the Hammers.
