West Brom striker Shane Long is edging closer to joining Nikica Jelavic at Hull City after undergoing a medical at the club.

After a relatively prudent summer recruitment drive, Tigers boss Steve Bruce has moved emphatically to add to his squad’s fire power with Jelavic’s club record signing confirmed on Wednesday and Long set to follow after terms were agreed with the Baggies.

The fees attached to both players could rise past £7m, each breaking the £5.25m club record that brought Tom Huddlestone to the KC Stadium last summer.

Going out of the KC is Aaron Mclean, who has joined Bradford City on a two-and-a-half year deal.

Bantams boss Phil Parkinson said: “I’m thrilled by the arrival of Aaron.

“He is someone I have monitored for a while now and he has a proven record at this level.

“Aaron is a fantastic player and he will be a great personality to have around the dressing room.

“I am sure he is going to be an excellent acquisition for the football club.”

Barnsley have signed former Stoke and Sunderland winger Liam Lawrence on a deal until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old has signed at Oakwell as a free agent.

Reds manager Danny Wilson said: “Some of the players, with all due respect, for the talent they’ve got need leaders on the pitch.

“He’s not match fit. He’s had a few training sessions with us. But he’s a fit lad and he’s experienced and it won’t take him long to get up to speed.

“We’ll look at him tomorrow and if he doesn’t react to anything we might include him.

“But he can play anywhere. Behind the front two or one or either side of the pitch.”

Doncaster Rovers are reportedly pursuing Leicester City’s Martyn Waghorn and Hull City striker Nick Proschwitz, who is also attracting interest from League One promotion-chasers Wolves.
