Yorkshire trio of Mowbray, Wilson and Parkinson earn monthy awards

The current prosperity of the region’s football was illustrated this morning when all three npower Manager of the Month awards were claimed by clubs in Yorkshire.

Middlesbrough’s Tony Mowbray secured the Championship award - his second of the season - following a highly-productive December which left his side within two points of top place.

They amassed 13 points from four wins and a draw, conceding just three goals along the way, as ‘Boro highlighted their growing promotion credentials.

In League One, Sheffield United chief Danny Wilson ruled after a perfect four wins from four to leave them just behind city rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the automatic promotion slots.

Victories over Rochdale, Bournemouth, Notts County and Hartlepool - preceded by an FA Cup success against Torquay - saw the South Yorkshire club pilfer 10 goals and concede just twice.

Huddersfield Town’s Jordan Rhodes won the player of the month award after another prolific month while Bradford City chief Phil Parkinson took the League Two manager of the month following the Bantams’ excellent resurgence.

At the end of November, they were looking like genuine relegation candidates but an unbeaten run of three wins and a draw has seen them rise to mid-table.
