Brentford 0 Huddersfield Town 4: Rhodes double strike underlines a quality display by Clark’s men

JORDAN Rhodes returned to haunt his former club as Huddersfield ripped sorry Brentford apart at Griffin Park.

The Terriers moved ominously back into the play-off frame thanks to a clinical display of finishing, one which left manager Lee Clark purring as his team extended their unbeaten league run to an incredible 36 games.

Clark, who reshuffled his side by bringing back captain Peter Clarke for banned Jamie McCombe and giving the nod to Gary Roberts and Tommy Miller in midfield, said: “We were outstanding, terrific and I’m delighted with the performance.

“We showed today that we are good team in every aspect of the game. We didn’t start well, but we got into the game and started to cause them problems and scored a terrific goal through Jordan.

“In the second-half, we played the game like I want them to play, kept the ball well, we moved it and we were clinical, so I’m delighted. I thought there were some outstanding performances.”

After losing Calum Woods with a hamstring injury and replacing him with Liam Cooper, Rhodes settled the Huddersfield nerves when he powered in a header to open the scoring.

After the break, three goals inside a devastating eight-minute spell wrapped up a well-deserved victory for the Yorkshiremen.

With 20 minutes to go, substitute striker Lee Novak latched onto an expertly-weighted through-ball from Damien Johnson to double the lead.

Six minutes later it was 3-0.

This time Novak turned provider as his cross was confidently nodded in by the unmarked Rhodes.

This was quickly followed by a fourth and final goal as Gary Roberts profited from a kind rebound after Rhodes’s drive had struck a post.
