Brentford v Huddersfield: No reason to panic at Terriers, insists Butterfield

Midfielder Jacob Butterfield has called for calm from Huddersfield Town players and fans following their disappointing defeat to Charlton at the weekend.

Rather than view the 3-0 reverse as a reason to panic, Butterfield believes it is the type of result symptomatic of the logjam of teams in a cluttered middle section of the Championship. Town are currently 14th on 42 points, 11 clear of a relegation zone they are unlikely now to fall back towards.

So just picking up as many wins as possible in an unpredictable division is the task until the end of the season.

“The nature of the Championship seems to be that you get a setback when you start to progress up the table,” said Butterfield.

“We’re one of around 18 clubs in the same position We’re doing all right overall though.

“You can never overreact and get too down after a bad display, just as you shouldn’t get too jovial about a good one.

“The games come thick and fast and you have to try and be consistent throughout and see where you end up.

“We’ve shown how capable we are against a lot of the top teams this season – we just need to do the right things on any given day.

“That includes playing at a tempo that suits us and gets the best out of ourselves. If we do that, we are a match for anyone. Hopefully we can produce that kind of performance tonight.”

A return trip to London tonight sees Town visit a side battling for a place in the top six.

And Butterfield believes a measured approach at Griffin Park will serve them well.

“Sometimes we need to respect that we are the away side and not try to win the game in the first minute,” he said.

“We need to learn to do the right things; when to go for the jugular and when to keep our shape.

“We still have a young core here and sometimes we can be a bit naïve in games.

“I’m one of the more experienced lads and I’m only 24; I’m still learning a lot about the game and this league.

“It is a learning curve for us all.”
