Bristol City v Huddersfield Town – Class of Terriers’ Lewis O’Brien tipped to come to fore again

Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien may not have consistently hit the stellar heights of last season’s breakthrough and stellar campaign with the Terriers so far in 2020-21, but head coach Carlos Corberan believes that perspective is required.

The 22-year-old remains a huge player for the club, who are seeking to stave off a disappointing run of form at the start of 2020-21 at Ashton Gate tonight.

Corberan, who will be without Danny Ward (calf) for the next two matches, said: “I know that O’Brien was a very important player last year and I think he has been an important one this year too. We tried to move him to the highest level we can.

“Sometimes, players are going to move with not quite the same level of accuracy and stability. Maybe the number of minutes he played in a row last year was not the same as right now.

“We need to continue thinking that he is a young player, but these are not going to be any type of excuses for him because he is demanding more of himself – more than anyone.

“This is something very important that he brings in his character.

“At the same time, when players are making their careers, they are going to suffer and have better moments and worse moments.”

Town, who are on a four-match losing sequence, have brought in Derby County midfielder Duane Holmes, but he will not feature tonight as he builds up his fitness work after re-joining the club.

Holmes’s deal runs until June 2024, with the option of a further year’s extension, with the 26-year-old confident that his peak years will arrive with Town.

Holmes, who left in June 2016, said: “It helps knowing the place, knowing the people and growing up in and around Huddersfield. It is something I am familiar with and I love the place.

“I cannot wait to give my best years to Town.

“I think the fans are going to be happy with the player they see now because I do not think I fulfilled my potential when I first came through.”
