Burnley 4 Sheffield United 2: Eagles shines against Blades

Mcky Adams tasted defeat as Sheffield United manager with a defeat at Turf Moor in the Championship today.

The Blades were without four players due to suspension – Nick Montgomery, Stephen Quinn, Kyle Bartley and Andy Reid – and defender Andy Taylor (shin) has joined a long term injury list that already includes Stephen Jordan, Chris Morgan, Darius Henderson, and Ryan France.

Midfielder Leon Britton returned after recovering from a minor back problem.

Burnley caretaker boss Stuart Gray gave winger Chris Eagles a starting role.

Midfielder Dean Marney and striker Chris Iwelumo also earned recalls to the starting line-up.

Burnley began life after Brian Laws with an entertaining victory that condemned United to a third straight defeat at Turf Moor.

United were playing under new boss Micky Adams for the first time and he watched on in delight as Mark Yeates fired the visitors ahead in the ninth minute.

Winger Chris Eagles brought the Clarets level in the 29th minute and two goals on the stroke of half-time from Chris Iwelumo and Jay Rodriguez put the hosts 3-1 ahead at the break.

A penalty from the in-form Ched Evans shortly after the restart hauled the visitors back into contention but Burnley added a fourth late on to seal victory through substitute Steven Thompson.
