Burton 0 Rotherham United 1: Le Fondre earns Millers winners

PERHAPS the moment Rotherham realised they would win this match, or at the very least not lose it, was when Adam Le Fondre added to his ever growing list of goals.

This was No 24 in all and in the 17 league games in which he has been on the scoresheet, Rotherham have lost only one of those matches.

This was probably the scruffiest goal of them all, somehow scrambled in as he ran on to a long free-kick from goalkeeper Andy Warrington, whose opposite number Artur Krysiak seemed to hesitate as Le Fondre appeared to lose control.

He could easily have had a hat-trick as Rotherham took charge in the second half. The little striker hit a post with a header, was denied by a fine save and struck a clear chance wide.

"We could have had it wrapped up early in the second half, we were well on top after half-time," said Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore who handed a debut to loan signing Josh Walker, 21, from Middlesbrough.

"If Alf (Le Fondre) keeps scoring that's fine by me, he is certainly a natural finisher," added Moore. "This one was a scramble but he's there on the spot again."

Le Fondre can eye up a return tomorrow to his former club Rochdale from whom Rotherham signed him in August for 125,000. However, he had to go off in the closing minutes and was feeling his calf.

Warrington made a good first half save from former Sheffield United striker Steve Kabba but was otherwise untroubled.

Burton Albion: Krysiak; Corbett, James, Parks, Boertien; Maghoma, Penn (Boco 72), McGrath, Taylor (Pearson 79); Harrad, Kabba. Unused substitutes: Poole, Walker, Gilroy, Phillips, Grocott.
