The visitors enjoyed more possession but failed to register a shot on target as Jonny Smith - on his debut - struck in the 90th minute to snatch an unlikely win for struggling Burton.

It is only the second time that Albion have kept a clean sheet this term as Hull struck the crossbar but otherwise struggled to break down the hosts' defence.

Visiting captain Richard Smallwood was forced off by injury in the 22nd minute and was replaced by Regan Slater.

Daniel Crowley came close to breaking the deadlock when he bent an effort towards the far post, with his shot going narrowly wide.

In the second half, Greg Docherty was inches away from giving Hull the lead when he unleashed a rasping effort from 20 yards but his strike went behind off the frame of the goal.
