Burton Albion 3 Bradford City 0: City chief frustrated by individual errors

CITY upset manager Peter Taylor by returning to bad habits as their mini-revival came to a jarring halt at the Pirelli Stadium.

A squandered chance by Omar Daley with the scores still level was followed by a carelessly conceded penalty in a crucial phase of the first half.

Daley blazed over an open goal from eight yards in the 26th minute and five minutes later Shaun Harrad put Burton in front from the penalty spot after City goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin had floored winger Lewis Young.

Taylor said: "Omar had a tremendous chance that had got to be a goal. He couldn't possibly put it over the bar from such a close distance, but he did.

"To me, that would really have helped the situation but instead we found ourselves behind when they got a penalty. If a defender can't get the ball, you can't then go into a player but that's what the goalkeeper's done and it was a mistake. It was a penalty, I've no complaint on that score, so after playing well we found ourselves a goal down at half-time."

City never recovered from going behind and conceded a second goal in the 54th minute when the unmarked James Collins headed in a cross from former Bradford midfield player Adam Bolder.

Collins and Harrad were also denied by the woodwork but an emphatic Burton victory was sealed when Russell Penn came off the bench to score their third in the 88th minute.
