Burton Albion v Doncaster Rovers - Road trips will be key for Darren Moore

DARREN MOORE’S desire for Doncaster Rovers to do more and improve is a constant refrain.

His Rovers side may occupy the final play-off berth and boast the second best home form in the division behind Ipswich Town, but he still is far from satisfied.

His standards are high and while Doncaster’s home statistics are very impressive, their numbers on the road in League One are more modest – even if a haul of three wins from seven matches is still half-decent.

With five of the club’s next seven league games being on the road, the opportunity is there for Rovers to put together a telling sequence of form at a key barometer in the season.

Moore observed: “I am happy in terms of the work we have done, but I am not satisfied. There is work to still be done.

“Thus far, the players have been good. But we need to start getting better.

“For me, what has gone is gone and I have closed a book. We just look at that next one (game).”

The Burton game is the second appoint of a trilogy of matches against the division’s lesser lights.

Rovers kicked off with a 2-1 win over Swindon in midweek and after this meeting with bottom-placed Albion, Moore’s side welcome lowly Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.

Issuing a note of caution ahead of the test with Burton, Moore said: “There is a whole new list of problems to overcome. In the league and level we are at, there is a real thin line between the teams at the top and bottom.

“Visually, when you look at where we are in the table and where they are, you think it should be a foregone conclusion, but football does not work like that.

“Our preparation, focus and mentality will be the same. Even though they sit bottom of the table, their performances do not warrant and suggest that.”
