For Chris Schofield, chairman of law firm Schofield Sweeney, that is about to become a reality as he tackles Endurance Island just off the Welsh coast.

But it’s all in the name of a good cause as he and a group of other people look to raise funds for Sue Ryder hospices – Wheatfields and Manorlands.

The team of fundraisers will be guided by Royal Marine Commandos and survival experts.

They will have to source and build their own shelter and fire before darkness closes in.

Mr Schofield said: “I am really looking forward to taking part in Endurance Island.

“I was put forward by one of my colleagues who was taking part in the Sue Ryder ‘Out of Office’ challenge earlier this year. Schofield Sweeney has raised over £10,000 for Sue Ryder so far and I am hoping to add another £1,000 to that.

“The staff at the Sue Ryder hospices provide a safety net to those going through an incredibly difficult time, it is important to me to help keep such important services available.”

The three sculptures, inspired by Mr Curran’s passion for Game of Thrones and medieval fantasy, include an 8ft dragon, an eagle with a 12 ft wing span which took 12 months to make, weighs 300kg and has 2,000 feathers all of which have been individually handmade, and the Spider Lady.

Mr Curran, who sculpts from his home in Skellow, first began exploring his talents after completing a Blacksmiths course over ten years ago.

Since then, he has worked alongside his wife Catherine who is an artist, to sketch and create sculptures which display immense talent.
