Cambridge United 0 Huddersfield Town 0: Terriers forced to replay

HUDDERSFIELD had veteran goalkeeper Ian Bennett to thank for earning them a second chance after they failed to produce their League One form against non-league Cambridge.

The Terriers' faces would have been as red as their strip if the 39-year-old goalkeeper had not pulled of a couple of brilliant second-half saves.

He managed to hold onto the ball at his near post three minutes after the restart when former York City striker Simon Russell hammered in an angled drive.

And Bennett made a reflex stop in the 73rd minute when Cambridge centre forward Danny Right finished off an excellent three-man move with a shot from only a couple of yards out.

"The keeper did well for us, kept us in it," said grim-faced Town chief Lee Clark. "To be honest, we didn't play our best until very late in the game, and it's not being patronising to say Cambridge made it very difficult us. We didn't impose our football on them, which was disappointing."

It took the Terriers, against a side 61 places below them in football's pyramid, until the second minute of stoppage time to force home goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt to make a real save.

Anthony Pilkington, who had squandered a chance in the 70th minute, broke into the area, and this time unleashed a powerful shot which was flying toward the top left-hand corner of the net when Naisbitt managed to palm the ball away for a corner.

Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe showed some skill when he got into the hard-fought encounter in the second half, but Town, who threw on defender Jamie McCombe as a striker, lacked the penetration which Russell and winger Robbie Willmott provided for the Blue Square Conference club.
