Carlisle 1 York City 1: Danny Galbraith provides benchmark for rest of campaign

NEARLY-MAN Danny Galbraith was credited with earning strugglers York City their first point of 2016.

Galbraith, dropped from the Minstermen’s starting line-up, was called off the bench on 76 minutes to ruin Carlisle’s homecoming as they played at flood-ravaged Brunton Park for the first time in eight weeks.

Former Hibernian and Gillingham winger Galbraith inspired a visiting team that had not managed a shot on target until he rattled the base of an upright from 25 yards on 88 minutes.

Luke Summerfield then swept the ball in from 12 yards to cancel out former Bradford midfielder Jason Kennedy’s 15th-minute opener for the hosts.

On the importance of 25-year-old Galbraith, who “nearly” made the grade at Manchester United before injuries cost him the chance of a professional deal, York manager Jackie McNamara said: “Danny did well although, as I’ve told him, he’s been a little unlucky because he’s the nearly man at the moment.

“He nearly scored for Luke’s goal and nearly scored twice at Yeovil, but he’s a fit lad with a fantastic attitude and he will have a big part to play for us for the rest of the season.”

Kennedy opened the scoring when he brushed past Russell Penn and Dave Winfield and beat Scott Flinders from eight yards.

The hosts then saw Jabo Ibehre, Derek Asamoah and Hallam Hope waste chances before Summerfield capitalised on their profligacy.
