Carlos Corberan hails fantastic team performance from Huddersfield Town

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Carlos Corberan was loathe to single out any individual Terriers players for singular praise and preferred instead to focus on an outstanding collective performance from his side - with everyone contributing to their fine 2-0 win over high-flying Watford.

Town secured their fourth successive home victory at the John Smith’s Stadium and were afforded the polar opposite in terms of emotions from the previous Saturday when they were thrashed 5-0 at Bournemouth.

Here, Huddersfield produced an excellent display against another relegated side, with the victory coming despite being without several senior players as they signed off for Christmas in wholly encouraging fashion.

The impressive Isaac Mbenza had a direct hand in both goals, while keeper Ryan Schofield also made some terrific saves on a day when Town produced their best team display of the season thus far.

Corberan said: “I think it is complicated to find some players who did not play the game with the right mentality and effort for the team.

“You look at the effort of Campbell and Mbenza and that of the midfielders, O’Brien, Eiting and Hogg and their work through the middle playing against some talented players. Our full-backs, Toffolo and Pipa, were also playing against some very good players.

“Then there was the concentration and effort of Naby Sarr and Edmonds-Green and especially for me, Ryan Schofield, who was one of the most important players.

“For me, you cannot individualize the victory with one player. Schofield did a very good performance, but I cannot say Campbell, Hogg and any other player were less important for the team.

“I cannot say we have a first keeper, because the three keepers that we have must be effective.

“We have three very good keepers and I am very comfortable.

“I was delighted with the awareness, community (spirit) and sacrifices that they (the team) gave."
