Carlos Corberan praises Fraizer Campbell's physical and mental strength as Huddersfield Town continue to be without Danny Ward

Carlos Corberan is hopeful Danny Ward will finally be able to restart his Huddersfield Town career in earnest after the international break – but until then he is pleased how Fraizer Campbell is sacrificing himself for the cause to make up for it.

Striker Ward rejoined the Terriers from Cardiff City in the summer, but injured his hamstring on his debut, against Rochdale in the League Cup, and has not been seen since.

Huddersfield are targeting late November for Ward and Rarmani Edmonds-Green, who has a hip injury, to make their returns to fitness.

"Unfortunately both players are working away from the team," the Spanish coach confirmed.

"They are continuing the process of adaptation and the process of recovery.

"I hope that in the next international break we can add them to the training sessions and integrate both into the dynamic of the team."

Until then, Campbell is the only senior specialist centre-forward available to Corberan, and he has been pleased with the fitness and commitment the 33-year-old has shown.

“I think Fraizer Campbell is a very important player for us,” he said.

“When you have players with a lot of seasons in the bag it's always important for them to have a pre-season to recover their fitness levels.

“I think last season he was taking his fitness level from the games (having spent pre-season as a free agent after being released by Hull City), we've tried to use training a lot to recover the fitness levels to allow him to play games.

“He's doing fantastic from an effort point of view, he's making an unbelievable effort for the team and in the last game he covered more than 1,000m of high intensity. It needs a lot of concentration, attention and a strong mind to do it.

“He's sacrificing himself to help the team and that for me is the key to our spirit. Every player is to try to fight with himself to help the team.”

Playmaker Alex Pritchard is in line to return for Wednesday's game at Birmingham City, with Corberan seeing signs he has fully recovered from the quad injury picked up against Nottingham Forest.

“Alex Pritchard was one of the most important players for me in the first three games and he played 90 minutes three games in a row,” Corberan pointed out.

“For his physical condition at that point it was very positive for him to have a (clear) week to prepare really well for games.

“He suffered an injury against Nottingham Forest and he was trying to recover. In the first few weeks I didn't feel the same level from Alex Pritchard, the same level of fitness or the reaction of his body to the effort. That's why he didn't start the last game, I didn't think he was ready, but he has managed the situation well in the last few day and he's going to be available for the next game.”

Centre-back Naby Sarr is suspended after his red card against Preston North End but Corberan can either recall youngster Romoney Crichlow, or revert to a back four.
