Character of Huddersfield Town players key, says David Wagner as Carlos Carvalhal expresses pride in Sheffield Wednesday

DAVID WAGNER admitted the fact his team were one game away from the Premier League after last night's dramatic penalty shoot-out win against Sheffield Wednesday sounded 'ridiculous.'

The Huddersfield Town manager was fulsome in his praise of his players after they came from 1-0 down to equalise and then send the game into extra-time and penalties where goalkeeper Danny Ward proved the hero with two magnificent saves.

Town will now face Reading in the play-off final at Wembley on Monday, May 29.

“There was never any doubt about the character of this group,” said Wagner.

“They have shown over the course of the season they can bounce back. They will always show they will try everything. We have to make sure we have trust and belief in ourselves. We have shown that again.

“I’m sure we will enjoy this and we know that we are now one game away from the Premier League. Even if I speak about it, it sounds ridiculous.”

An understandably downbeat Carlos Carvalhal, added: “We are disappointed but we have to be proud because we have turned Sheffield Wednesday around as a club to one that is fighting for promotion. Penalties, you never know. It is a lottery. I am very proud of my players.”
