Charlton 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0: Owls unbeaten run comes to end

GOALKEEPER Nicky Weaver warned Sheffield Wednesday will have to be back to their best for tomorrow's visit of Huddersfield if they are going to bounce back from defeat at Charlton.

Weaver captained the Wednesday side in the absence of the suspended Darren Purse and received a hostile reception against his former club.

He could do nothing to prevent Scott Wagstaff's 23rd-minute goal despite being one of Wednesday's best players at The Valley.

Weaver insists there was enough in the performance to convince him they can do well against Huddersfield as long as they can rediscover some goal-scoring form.

He said: "We need to start scoring some goals. We've not been free-scoring of late and against Huddersfield we'll have to be on our toes to get maximum points."

Charlton were the better side in the first half and deservedly took the lead into the break, but the visitors were then the better side only to fail to score for the fifth time in 14 matches this season.

"I didn't think there was much in the game. I thought it was a match that was pretty even," added Weaver. "In the second half we piled on the pressure, but just couldn't break them down, and, unfortunately, we came away empty-handed.

"I thought we had the better of the game in the second half, but things didn't quite fall for us in the final third. It was a special day to play against Charlton, but it was even more special because the manager made me captain.

"It's something I'll never forget and it was a very proud day for me."

Purse returns for the visit of Huddersfield tomorrow but Jon Otsemobor is still serving a three-match suspension.
