Chelsea loanee set for Millers debut

ROTHERHAM UNITED manager Alan Stubbs says that new signing Izzy Brown could be handed his debut at home to Brentford on Saturday - although he admits that several other players are unlikely to feature.

Brown, 19, brought in a season-long loan from Chelsea - with the club also working on another addition ahead of the weekend - trained with his Millers team-mates today and if he comes through, then he could feature against the Bees, as Stubbs chases his first win as Rotherham manager.

But Stubbs says that Kirk Broadfoot (back) is a major doubt, with Lee Frecklington, Greg Halford and Joe Newell all still out - although the trio will step up their rehabilitation in training next week.

On Brown, who the Millers fought off stiff interest to sign, Stubbs said: “He could be involved on Saturday.

“We need to make sure he is right and ready first before we throw him in. In terms of fitness, I do not think he will be a million miles away because he played in the (Uefa U19) championships in the summer.

“He had four of five days off to spend some time with his girlfriend and then he has been back training with Chelsea.

On the rest of his fitness news, Stubbs added: “Probably none of the injured players will be back for Saturday.

“It is 50:50 with Broady. Frecks will start training in the early part of next week and Greg Halford is still potentially 10 days away.

“Joe Newell is getting closer. He will have a week of full training next week and that will put him right to come back into the squad.”
