Chester 1 Guiseley 1: Bower happy as late strike ensures point

The visitors started well, with winger Wayne Brooksby seeing his lobbed effort saved.

Chester’s first chance fell to Wayne Rooney’s brother John, who aimed a free-kick around the Guiseley wall, where Steven Drench was able to save well.

Another Guiseley chance saw Nicky Boshell’s effort take a deflection before landing on the roof of the net.

Chester’s George Thomson wasted a good chance early in the second half before the visitors’ nearly scored when Boshell’s cross found the head of Rob Atkinson, only for former Guiseley goalkeeper Jon Worsnop to make the save.

Guiseley fell behind when Zak Thompson was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area and Rooney delivered a confident finish from the spot.

Guiseley nearly equalised when Adam Boyes’s shot was saved and put into the goal by Atkinson but it was ruled offside.

The visitors’ pressure paid off in the 84th minute when Boyes beat the offside trap to score the equaliser.

Bower said: “I’m pleased we got something out of the match, we’ve created chances again, so I’m happy.”
