Burke, 32, has featured just ten times for Forest this term, with his last start coming in the 1-1 draw at Charlton Athletic on January 2.

The former Scottish international, capped seven times by his country, can play on the right hand side of midfield or left and adds a quality flank option for Neil Redfearn.

Burke has previous Championship experience with Cardiff, having made his name north of the border with Rangers.

The signing of Burke follows on from the completion of a deal to sign ex-Leeds striker Luciano Becchio for the rest of the season earlier this week.

“Chris is a very experienced player and he knows the level,” said Redfearn.

“He has got that turn of pace, the ability to go past people to create and score.

“He adds good competition and he adds some real Championship quality that perhaps we have been lacking a little at times.”

Boss Neil Redfearn has also brought in Tunisian international defender Aymen Belaid and Manchester City defender Shay Facey already this month, while also signing former Leeds keeper Alex Cairns as cover with Adam Collin joining Aberdeen on loan.
