Christopher Schindler set for Huddersfield Town return but Rarmani Edmonds-Green has Carlos Corberan's confidence if needed

Captain Schindler was withdrawn with concussion at half-time of the 0-0 draw against Wycombe Wanderers, and missed Saturday's come-from-behind victory against Middlesbrough – the Terriers' first since April 2017 – as a result. With Richard Stearman injuring his hamstring against Boro, Huddersfield could really do with the German back in south Wales but Sunday's Arsenal versus Wolverhampton Wanderers Premier League match highlighted the issue of concussion protocols and their importance, and he will only be allowed to play if he comes through them.

With that in mind, Schindler was undergoing tests as Corberan spoke to the media on Monday to determine if he was fit to travel with the team and train in Wales ahead of the game.

If not, Edmonds-Green, who replaced Stearman in Saturday's first half will do so from the start at the Liberty Stadium.

The 21-year-old made his first league appearance for the Terriers last December at right-back, and followed it up with a substitute appearance at the end of the month, but was loaned to League Two Swindon Town in January and did not feature again for Huddersfield until Saturday, thanks in part to Corberan's own rigorous fitness criteria.

“I feel full of confidence (in him) because that's why he is in the squad,” said the Spaniard.

“Edmonds-Green doesn't have much experience in the Championship so we had to adapt him fast. Unfortunately we couldn't work with him (much) from the beginning because he picked up an injury in pre-season and once he was ready to train again the medical staff said his body was not sufficiently adapted to the demands of the Championship.

“That's why had a period with the medical staff trying to adapt to the demands of the Championship. Now he's ready, he's fit.

“That's why he came back to train with the group, played some minutes with the B team, why he was on the bench the other day and why he's going to be ready to help the team if it's necessary.

“He can bring a desire to be in the squad. When players are 20, 21 year-old or even younger they need to bring this to the team so they can take advantage of the opportunities.

“At the same time we know he's a player with the ball who can offer good options to play from the back.”

Stearman could miss the next three or four matches.

“We're going to have a scan today because we felt we needed some hours need to pass until we we could do a scan to find out what happened with his hamstring but I think it will be between 10 days and two weeks,” said Corberan. “Everything will depend on the scan.

“Stearman has been one of the important players in our defence but we know these things can happen. He needs a couple of weeks (off) and he's going to miss a lot of games because the games are non-stop so we need to be ready for this type of situation, it's something that can happen in this situation. We hope it will be the minimum number of days but we need to be ready to adapt to any circumstances.”

Goalkeeper Ben Hamer returns from Coronavirus isolation, whilst Alex Pritchard and Pipa are due to rejoin training on Monday, but are targeting Monday's visit of Queens Park Rangers for their returns.
