City see red as Stoke clinch quarter-final slot

Ryan Shawcross and Tuncay struck in extra-time as Stoke dramatically emerged victorious from their three-game epic with Manchester City last night.

Craig Bellamy had ensured the FA Cup fifth-round replay at the Britannia Stadium finished 1-1 after 90 minutes by immediately cancelling out Dave Kitson's late opener.

But Stoke made their numerical advantage count after Emmanuel Adebayor's harsh sending-off, by reclaiming the lead through Shawcross from a Rory Delap throw and Tuncay finished the job.

Reading booked a quarter-final clash against Aston Villa after staging a remarkable comeback to see off a West Brom side who were themselves within a minute of a meeting their Midlands neighbours.

Gylfi Sigurdsson proved to be the matchwinner in the fifth minute of extra time, just moments after Brian Howard's strike in stoppage time at the end of normal time had brought a dramatic end to the fifth-round replay.

Villa made it through after John Carew won and converted two late penalties to keep them on course for a second Wembley final as they disposed of Crystal Palace 3-1 at Villa Park.

Villa had been stunned when Darren Ambrose's spot-kick cancelled out Gabriel Agbonlahor's 14th goal of the campaign, but Carew had the final say.
