Colchester United 4 Bradford City 3: Taylor delighted at Bantams' graft

BRADFORD chief Peter Taylor cut a frustrated figure as his side were dumped out of the FA Cup after a seven-goal thriller.

The Bantams were in the contest all the way at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, but James Hanson's second goal 11 minutes from time could not inspire the visitors to at least force a replay.

"I was pleased with the way the boys kept going, but I'm not pleased we conceded four goals," moaned Taylor. "We know we could have done better defensively and that's the frustrating thing.

"Colchester are third in League One so it's no disgrace to have scored three goals and still got beaten, but we felt as though we could have got more from the game.

"But we've got to learn to improve things in certain areas. We didn't start too brightly and we know we've got to be more solid at the start of matches.

"Overall I was pleased with the way we played, our set pieces were excellent and we played well at times, but we would have liked to have been in the hat for the next round."

Andy Bond gave the U's a deserved seventh-minute lead, but the Bantams, boosted by a run of four wins in their last five games, hit back a minute later through a clinical strike from Hanson.

David Mooney restored the hosts lead with a classy finish in the 20th minute, before midfielder David Syers headed the Bantams level in the 32nd minute.

Full-back Brian Wilson made it 3-2 via a free-kick and then Mooney scored from the spot after Matt Heath had been adjudged to have bundled over Luke Oliver.

Hanson headed in to give Taylor's side hope of snatching a draw, but the hosts held on under pressure to progress to the next stage.
