Conor McAleny a Bradford City January transfer window target, but not a priority, says Conor Sellars

Conor McAleny is on Bradford City's January shopping list but not at the top of it, according to joint interim manager Conor Sellars.

The Bantams have been linked with the Oldham Athletic winger ans whilst it is a position and a player they are looking at, Sellars downplayed the idea he could be one of the signings they are looking to add despite and already busy recruitment drive.

And although Lee Novak is unlikely to feature at Southend United on Tuesday, Sellars is optimistic City will not have a hole to fill at centre-forward for any prolonged period of time.

Bradford have signed six players this month but they hope they are not finished yet.

“We're hoping to get some more over the line,” said Sellars. “If they're right for us and we're right for them we'll surely look to strengthen.”

As to whether McAleny could be one of those, he said: “His name's on the list. He's probably not our priority and main target for some reasons.

“He's a good player who's got goals but we're also looking at the bigger picture and doing due diligence to make sure he's the right fit for Bradford City.

“Higher up the field we're looking for a little bit more ammo.”

Bradford have no fresh injuries to contend with against the side bottom of League Two, although Sellars did tantalisingly hint at “potentially a late inclusion”. It seems unlikely to be vice-captain Novak, who missed Saturday's 0-0 draw at Cambridge United with a knee injury.

“He's going to get the final assessment this week which will give us a really good indicator on the timeframe,” said Sellars. “He's looking quite good to us at the minute but we'll see what happens.

“Potentially we're looking for some really good news.”

It will certainly not be Harry Pritchard, who is back in light training. Sellars was vague about the problem which has stopped him appearing yet in 2021, saying: “It's just an injury he had before he came to the club. Some players have ongoing problems and it's that for him.”
