Coventry City 2 Doncaster Rovers 1: McSheffrey catches Rovers cold late on

GARY McSheffrey headed a late winner for Coventry to overshadow strike partner Marlon King who was injured on his first Sky Blues start.

McSheffrey headed home Aron Gunnarsson's right-wing cross in the 86th minute. Recent signing King had earlier been forced off in his first league start since serving a jail sentence.

Doncaster striker Billy Sharp struck his third goal of the season to cancel out Gunnarsson's second-minute opener for Coventry, who created fewer goalscoring chances than their visitors. Gunnarsson fired his second goal in as many matches in the home side's first attack, latching on to Clive Platt's ball across the face of goal to convert from six yards.

Doncaster responded with Martin Woods dragging a shot wide from the edge of the area and then volleying past the post, while James Coppinger's close-range effort was comfortably saved by Keiren Westwood. Coventry almost doubled their lead through Ward's thumping drive, but Neil Sullivan pushed the ball away at full stretch.

Rovers were then dealt a blow when Shelton Martis was forced out of the action but they drew level two minutes before half-time when John Oster's superb raking pass picked out Sharp and the Rovers striker drilled home the equaliser. Sullivan denied King before McSheffrey struck.
