Crewe 0 Rotherham United 1: Millers grab victory

ROTHERHAM United bounced back in emphatic style from their midweek FA Cup exit at York.

The winning margin was only a single goal but it will forever remain a mystery as to how they didn't win by a few more after an excellent display.

Rotherham had their opportunities in the first half and then went on to thoroughly outplay Crewe throughout the second half and the home side were left desperately hanging on.

Rotherham could even afford the rarity of a missed penalty from top scorer Adam Le Fondre. His spot kick, with 15 minutes to go, was brilliantly saved by Rhys Taylor and it was only Le Fondre's second penalty miss for the club.

"They played some excellent football throughout and how they only managed one goal I don't know," said Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore.

"Credit aside for coming back the way they did after the defeat at York. It was as good a display as we have put together all season and certa inly deserved a bigger score line."

The only goal came after just two minutes when a Kevin Ellison corner was headed into his own net by Adam Dugdale under pressure from Mark Bradley.

Ryan Taylor hit the bar, Le Fondre had an effort blocked near the line and Ellison was denied by good goalkeeping.

Crewe had their best two chances midway through the first half.

Ashley Westwood shot wide when clean through and then Jamie Annerson made an excellent save from Clayton Donaldson but Crewe could have no complaints after being thoroughly out-played throughout the second half when they struggled to contain winger Marcus Marshall.
