He has signed a two-year deal with Pompey.

Main was transfer-listed by Rovers manager Darren Ferguson at the end of the season, with the 24-year-old enduring a fraught 2015-16 campaign at the club.

The north-easterner spent most of the second-half of last season on loan at Oldham Athletic, infamously helping the Latics win their relegation fight in League One, having elected not to return to Doncaster early from a loan spell with a clause inserted in his deal allowing him to decide on his future.

That decision effectively ensured that the forward’s days were numbered in South Yorkshire and he has now followed defender Gary MacKenzie and midfielder Richard Chaplow in leaving the club - with most Rovers supporters unlikely to bemoan his departure.

Main, who had a year left on his Rovers deal, made 14 appearances for the club last term, before linking up with Oldham, where he scored four goals in 18 outings.

The exit of Main leaves forward Dany N’Guessan and keeper Thorsten Stuckmann as the sole senior transfer-listed players who still remain at the club.

Nathan Tyson has also left Rovers in the wake of relegation.

On the incoming front, Rovers have brought in eight players so far in a busy close season.

Keeper Ross Etheridge has signed along with defenders Tyler Garrett, Joe Wright and Mathieu Baudry, midfielder Tommy Rowe and forwards John Marquis, Matty Blair and Gary McSheffrey.
