The Terriers have slashed adult prices for the 2016-17 campaign to just £179 in all areas of the John Smith’s Stadium.

That represents a huge saving on this term, where adult prices ranged from £295 to £560.

According to the ‘Price of Football’ survey that was released last October, only three clubs offered a cheaper price this time around than what Huddersfield fans will have to pay next season. Town’s season tickets will be on sale from March 17 and the offer is limited to the first 10,000 to sign up.

If that target number is reached, club officials will then decide whether to extend the offer or not. Around 8,000 season tickets were sold by the Terriers for 2015-16.

The new cut-price deal represents a cost of £7.80 per match for adults. That figure falls considerably for juniors, with Under-8s paying just £23 for the campaign and those aged eight to 17-year-olds gaining access to all 23 league games for £69.

Chairman Dean Hoyle is behind the initiative. He is determined to boost attendances at the John Smith’s and has decided to use an expected increase in the club’s solidarity payment from the Premier League for next season to help fund the cost.

Town and their Championship brethren are expected to receive an additional £2m thanks to the top flight’s new bumper TV deal.

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Bradford City fans have benefited from their own cut price scheme this term. A little over 18,000 were sold by the League One club after adult prices were slashed to £149. Only Charlton Athletic and Reading sold season tickets for less than £179 in 2015-16 but those numbers were limited

Huddersfield’s season tickets for 2016-17 will be available in all but two areas of the John Smith’s. These are the lower tier of the Fantastic Media Stand and the South Stand, which is used to house away fans. Against teams who do not bring a large following, Huddersfield supporters occupy half of the South Stand. That practice will continue next term and fans with season ticket cards for other areas will be able to gain admission to the South Stand with those cards.
