Danny Cowley says criticism of Huddersfield Town's goal drought is justified

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN manager Danny Cowley has acknowledged that his side's lack of a cutting edge is a fair criticism after their goal drought extended to over six hours after a goalless draw at Hillsborough.

The relegation-threatened Terriers recorded a clean sheet on their travels for the third successive outing, but of greater concern is their current barren streak in front of goal, with the Terriers remaining in trouble at the foot of the table.

Cowley's side are back in action at home to high-flying West Brom on Friday before visiting play-off candidates Millwall next Wednesday.

They are three points and two places better off than the side who occupy the final relegation spot in Hull City and second-from-bottom Luton Town.

He said: "I thought it was a very committed performance. I felt that we had the best chances in the game and their best chances were all from distance.

"Against the ball, we defended well and we had three good chances. That clinical edge in the final third is an issue for us, but we created enough chances.

"It is a point gained. We tried to win the game and wanted to win the game, but just lacked the little bit of quality in the final action.

"The performance was good tonight on the whole. We will be criticised for not getting the goal, which will be fair."

Despite his side's tough predicament, Cowley insists he is embracing the challenge.

He added: "It's a great game isn't it. There's loads to play for, everyone's livelihoods at stake and these are the games you want to be involved in.

"For me, if I wanted an easy life I would have stayed at Lincoln. The people if Lincoln loved us for what we achieved at the club, but I don't want to be in my comfort zone.

"I want to be pushed to the limit. I looked at these games and knew how difficult it was going to be and it's proving to be as tough as I thought it would be.

"I'm enjoying it, every single minute of it. The chance of playing West Brom on Friday, after 48 hours recovery is brilliant.

"It's what I'm here for and I'm really excited for the game."
