Darlington 2 Rotherham United 0: Moore slams defensive errors

ROTHERHAM lost for the second time inside three weeks to the side propping up League Two. They could have no complaints, either.

Perhaps Rotherham will be wondering not how they lost but why Darlington should be bottom – although the injection of five new signings has brought huge improvement.

Rotherham will be more concerned at their own form and whilst they may appear well placed in the promotion race, the reality is that they are not looking like a side on the way up.

"I'm embarrassed that we have lost to the bottom side again and the players should be, too," said manager Ronnie Moore.

"We tried a new system and looked to pass it on the floor but the number of long balls we played was ridiculous. We've got to get back to the drawing board."

What should worry Moore as well is that not once did they force Darlington goalkeeper Shane Redmond into anything like a save.

His only real scare was when he dashed 35 yards from goal to prevent Adam Le Fondre reaching a through ball. Then he looked on helplessly as Danny Harrison's first-time effort from inside the centre circle drifted wide of the unguarded net.

Darlington went in front after 19 minutes when Tadhg Purcell shot from outside the area into the far corner.

Rotherham were staring at defeat when Gareth Waite netted the second after a scramble eight minutes after half-time and the visitors never threatened.
