Doncaster Rovers 1 Exeter City 3: Ferguson frustrated as Rovers lose pole position in League Two

After an even first half, Rovers conceded twice in the second half to fall below Plymouth Argyle into second place ahead of the final day of the season next week.

James Coppinger had levelled matters for Rovers after Jordan Moore-Taylor's thunderbolt put the visitors ahead only for Exeter to dominate the second period.

Goals from David Wheeler and Liam McAlinden after the restart secured the Southern outfit a place in the play-offs.

Plymouth had been trailing at home to Crewe but turned their match on its head to claim a 2-1 win and move to the top.

That means Doncaster must now better Argyle's result next week to earn boss Darren Ferguson a first title as a manager.

Rovers have already sealed promotion back to League One at the first attempt.

Boss Darren Ferguson said: "We're all very disappointed, to take one point from four games at this stage of the season isn't good enough.

To lose the way we have and the way we conceded the goals just isn't good enough.

"Next Saturday is a very important game for a number of reasons, we want to finish the season off with a win."
