Doncaster Rovers 1 Nottingham Forest 0: O'Driscoll hopes to sign Sharp

DONCASTER manager Sean O'Driscoll saw Billy Sharp hit the 12th goal of his loan spell from Sheffield United and reiterated his desire to sign the 24-year-old on a permanent deal.

Sharp found first-team opportunities hard to come by at Bramall Lane but O'Driscoll knows he will need to shatter his club's record transfer fee of 300,000 if he is to land Sharp on a permanent deal.

"He's not my player, he's Sheffield United's player so I can't say what I'd like to do with him in the summer," he said. "Of course I would like to keep him but someone needs to give me a million quid.

"He has been terrific for us. He had four or five games when he went without a goal and we said to him not to get frustrated because he is still a big influence for us. I'm pleased for him and all the goals he has scored for us have been crucial.

"He had a good tussle with Wes Morgan today and he gets frustrated very easily, so we told him to handle it, and he did so very well."

Sharp's first-half goal prevented Forest from closing the gap on leaders Newcastle to two points.

Forest were not helped in their cause by Garath McLeary's unfortunate late red card for a foul on John Oster.

The win was Doncaster's first in a month and, although they seldom looked like adding to Sharp's winner, they shaded the verdict because of how well they played inside a frantic opening 30 minutes.

Sharp had the first chance but Morgan flew in to block his attempt. He then had a 20-yard drive clawed wide by Lee Camp and he lobbed wide before netting as he ghosted in to get his head on the end of James Chambers's floated cross and catch Camp flat-footed in the 31st minute.
