Doncaster Rovers: Ferguson feels let down for the fans

UNDER-FIRE Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson has accepted his share of the criticism for Rovers' desperate recent run from supporters - as the club's demoralising slump continued in a 2-0 derby loss at Scunthorpe United.

At a venue where Rovers had won on their last three visits and where they had sampled defeat just once in 13 previous trips, the visitors were second best to the Iron, who secured a rare double over their neighbours.

The performance drew criticism from the 1,500 travelling fans after relegation-haunted Rovers slumped to their seventh defeat in eight League One matches and Ferguson says he has no truck with that on a night when he felt his side let down the supporters.

Ferguson, whose side - without a win in 10 matches - visit Bradford City on Saturday, said:“They are quite rightly critical, critical of me, absolutely.

“If you keep losing games it’s always the manager that will pay which is understandable.

“I’ll tell you who I feel let down for, the fans.

“We spoke about it before, the following we would get which was actually bigger than I expected.

“I spoke to the players about the fact we let them down and I think they have let me down as well.”
