DONCASTER manager Grant McCann believed his side should have defeated his previous club and league leaders Peterborough, who had manager Steve Evans and assistant Paul Raynor dismissed late on for second bookable offences!
“I thought we were excellent throughout and deserved to come away with more than a point,” said McCann after Rovers became the first side to claim a point from the hosts this season.
“We stopped their threats quite well and were very good tactically. We’ll move onto the next one and learn from it. It’s still early days in the season and we’re disappointed we didn’t pick up the win regardless of the league table.”
Evans, who claimed he was sent to the stand for moving out of his dugout area, saw his side come from behind to gain a point.
The visitors were denied an early opener when former Posh hero Tommy Rowe saw a shot pushed onto a post by goalkeeper Aaron Chapman, who could not prevent John Marquis from firing Rovers ahead five minutes before the break with a classy finish after being released by the dangerous Mallik Wilks.
Posh were fortunate not to fall further behind early in the second half when Wilks fired against a post, but they levelled when Siriki Dembele’s free-kick from the left in the 58th minute was met by Ryan Tafazolli’s header.

It was Rovers who looked the likeliest winners from then on. Wilks blazed a glorious chance over before Rowe saw a header kept out by another stunning save from Chapman.
