Doncaster Rovers WWWWLW (+2) – Made an emphatic statement on their return to action after a Covid hiatus by producing a gutsy FA Cup shock at Blackburn, booking a fourth-round tie at West Ham. Rovers have won seven of their last nine outings in all competitions. Impressive stuff.

Barnsley WLWWLW (=) Secured a routine Cup progression with a 2-0 win over Tranmere - their fourth successive win at Oakwell. The Reds, who have won six of their past eight matches in league and cup, welcome Swansea on Saturday. They are fifth in the Championship’s latest six-match form guide.

Sheffield Wednesday LWDWWW (+1) – Funny old season is the phrase. Managerless they may be - and they were even without their interim boss Neil Thompson last weekend - but no matter, Wednesday are on their best run of form for a good while.

Registered their third consecutive win on Saturday by avoiding a banana-skin at an Exeter side who had talked up their prospects of Cup progress and fancied it. You have to go back to April 2018 for the last time the Owls won three games on the spin.

Middlesbrough WWWLWL (-3) – No dramas in the greater scheme of things after bowing out of the Cup at Brentford, but they drop three places nevertheless. Boro are back at home for the first time in a month on Saturday when they host Aitor Karanka’s Birmingham. The Teessiders have won their last four matches at the Riverside, where they have been beaten just once in ten league games so far this term.

Sheffield United DLLLWW (+6) – A great leap forward, courtesy of back-to-back wins in league and Cup. After their third-round win at Bristol Rovers, the Blades got the winless monkey off their backs in the Premier League by securing their first win in 18 league games in 2020-21 by way of a cherished victory over Newcastle United.

All told, it was United’s first success in 21 top-flight matches and first in 186 days - just over six months - after a 3-0 success over Chelsea on July 11. Hallelujah.

Hull City LLLWDW (+1) – A dramatic Papa John’s Trophy comeback win over Fleetwood has the Tigers dreaming of Wembley. The triumph followed a hard-fought point at League One rivals Sunderland, with Grant McCann’s side having shown their fortitude and spirit already in the new year. Two home games in the league now in full view against Blackpool and Accrington.

Bradford City LDWWWD (-1) – More unwelcome disruption arrived last weekend when City’s League Two trip to Scunthorpe fell victim to the weather. Will be seeking to rediscover their momentum in the first game of the New Year at home to Crawley on Saturday with interim duo Mark Trueman and Conor Sellars yet to taste defeat during their time in charge, having taken over from Stuart McCall a month ago.

Leeds United WLWWLL (-3) – After Histon, Rochdale, Sutton and Newport et al, the name of Crawley Town can be added to the list of ignominy following Leeds United’s latest FA Cup embarrassment. The Whites return to league business on Saturday at home to Brighton as they seek to follow up recent Elland Road wins over Burnley and Newcastle and provide a shot in the arm to supporters after a tortuous Sunday in front of the television.

Huddersfield Town DWLWLL (-1) – Town fielded a kindergarten line-up en route to a Cup exit to Plymouth last weekend as Carlos Corberan’s starting side illustrated just where his priorities lie in 2020-21. Corberan’s side visit Watford on Saturday as they aim to remedy away statistics which have seen them fail to win in their last six matches on their travels. Town’s home form is the sixth best in the Championship. Their away form is the fourth worst.

Harrogate Town LLWLWL (-1) – Disruptions for all manner of reasons are not helping the flow of Simon Weaver’s side - who are a little bit too close to the relegation positions in League Two for comfort at the minute. But it is still early days for Town, who entertain Exeter City this weekend, hopefully.

Rotherham United LLWLLL (-1) – Were afforded justifiable praise after producing a superb performance in ninety minutes before bowing out to Premier League giants Everton after extra time in the Cup on Saturday, but the Millers have now lost five of their last six outings. Paul Warne’s side, who have won just once in their past ten matches in all competitions, have not won away from home since the opening day of the season. It would be nice if they changed at fellow strugglers Derby on Saturday.
