Doncaster Rovers ‘really close’ to adding to loan arrival of Josh Sims

MIDFIELDER Matt Smith has hailed the return of fellow loanee Josh Sims – as Doncaster Rovers close in on securing another new signing ahead of tomorrow’s key League One trip to Lincoln City.

Influential winger Sims has returned for a second loan spell at the club from parent club Southampton.

Meanwhile, Rovers chief Darren Moore, who has also brought in John Bostock this week, has revealed the club are ‘really close’ to a forward addition to complete a busy week of activity.

Sims is currently working on his fitness after his half-season loan at Rovers was cut short a few weeks early due to a hamstring injury and he will return to Rovers next week where he will be assessed as to when he is likely to be back on the first-team fray.

On the return of Sims, who had plenty of rival interest, Smith said: “You saw what he did and brought to the team. It is great to have him back.

“The players we have brought in are quality and we know that and competition for places is always a good thing.

“Not just that, but I think depth in our squad with the amount of games we have got and players of this quality is massive. All the lads know they will be needed at some point.”

Rovers head to Sincil Bank tomorrow for a ‘six-pointer’ at the top of League One seven days on from a high-profile FA Cup tie at West Ham.

Smith admits that Doncaster’s performance in that 4-0 loss left him feeling ‘annoyed’ – and is fuelling their desire to show a true representation of themselves in the games ahead.

He said: “We were disappointed with the West Ham game. We didn’t show what we were about.

“Going to (Tuesday) game from Saturday, I think it annoyed a lot of us.”

Bostock is rated at ‘50-50’ for tomorrow’s game when he could be handed a debut.
