Doncaster Rovers v Norwich City: O'Driscoll stymied by talks with wanted trio

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Sean O'Driscoll is awaiting the outcome of contract talks with a trio of key players before making his next move in the transfer market.

Captain Brian Stock, defender James O'Connor and midfielder Martin Woods are in the final year of existing deals and O'Driscoll wants all three to stay at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Speaking ahead of tonight's home game with Norwich City, O'Driscoll admitted that things have yet to fall in place against a backdrop of budget limitations.

"We have only got a small amount to play with and we are trying to sign players who are out of contract on contract," he said. "Until that process is complete, that is the priority. We can't spend money that is earmarked somewhere else – and that is the conundrum."

Winger James Coppinger agreed a new deal last week but talks with Stock are on hold until the New Year.

"If Martin and James's (deals) don't come to fruition in the next few days that's another we will have to leave until Christmas," admitted O'Driscoll.

After taking a point at Watford, O'Driscoll is looking for victory tonight but admits that Norwich are strong opponents.

"An away point is good if you get a home win on the back of it. Norwich have come up from League One with momentum. They have experienced the high life and look set to claw their way back there.

"When you have average gates over 26,000 it puts you at an advantage over everyone in League One and a lot of clubs in the Championship as well. You have to be sensible with what you do because the league is littered with stories of clubs spending more than they can afford. Norwich have learned that lesson and bought well."

Striker Steve Brooker faces a late test after missing the Watford game with a virus. Defender Byron Webster is struggling with a foot injury and striker James Hayter is sidelined with a hamstring strain.
