Barnsley 2 Doncaster Rovers 0: Ten-man Rovers lose out to Davies double

CRAIG Davies struck twice as Barnsley inflicted a South Yorkshire derby defeat on neighbours Doncaster Rovers, writes Ian Appleyard.

Davies scored in the 30th and 65th minutes to secure a result that leaves Rovers stuck at the bottom of the Championship table.

To make matters worse, defender Adam Lockwood was shown a straight red card for a second half challenge on Barnsley’s Stephen Foster and will now miss Rovers’s next three games.

The Tykes took the lead when Davies pressured Shelton Martis on the edge of the area before drilling a low shot past Rovers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Davies doubled the home side’s lead with a neat flick past Ikeme following Matt Don’e cross.

Jim O’Brien struck the post in the closing stages for Barnsley and substitute Danny Haynes was unable to convert the rebound from close range.
