Barnsley v Doncaster Rovers: Derby win would end Doncaster’s concerns

DONCASTER Rovers manager Sean O’Driscoll is refusing to take survival for granted ahead of today’s South Yorkshire derby at Barnsley.

Rovers are five points clear of the relegation zone after picking up a point on Good Friday at home to Crystal Palace.

“The agony goes on for us. Nothing has changed,” he said. “Maybe that’s a good thing, not a bad thing.

“I don’t think a win (on Friday) would have made us safe and maybe we would have got a little complacent.

“We will have had an extra day to recover so hopefully come Monday – another big game, a local derby – we can carry on where we left off.

“What we want is the spirit we showed against Crystal Palace with the quality we showed at Hull. If you don’t get the quality, you can rely on the spirit, and if we don’t get the result I can take it on the chin.”

O’Driscoll believes defender George Friend could be a target for Premier League clubs this summer after moving from left back to centre back in recent weeks.

“George is quick, comfortable on the ball, and he has a fantastic attitude,” said O’Driscoll. “Left-sided centre halves who can play, who are quick, and athletic are what the Premier League boys want.”

Defender Mustapha Dumbuya is doubtful after limping off with a hamstring injury against Palace.

Barnsley are 10-points clear of the relegation zone but manager Mark Robins is looking for an improvement on his side’s display in a 1-0 defeat at Watford on Saturday.
