Beye aiming to resurrect his career with loan switch to Doncaster

DONCASTER ROVERS have made former Senegal international Habib Beye their latest big name loan signing.

The 34-year-old Aston Villa defender has joined on a three-month contract after falling out of favour in the Midlands.

Beye, whose career moves amount to more than £5m, has made just one appearance at Villa Park this season – it lasted just three minutes when he came off the bench late on against Hereford United in the Carling Cup last August.

The former Newcastle United man will be keen to impress at the Keepmoat Stadium as it is almost certain that he will not be offered a new deal when his current Villa contract runs out in the summer.

It is expected that the Premier League club will pick up the majority share of Beye’s contract while he is in South Yorkshire.

Beye, who moved south from St James’ Park in 2009, has picked up 35 caps for Senegal and made substitute appearances for his country at the 2002 World Cup.

He made his name at Strasbourg before earning a big-money move to Marseille, whom he represented in the Champions League and the UEFA Cup.

He also captained Marseille before joining Newcastle in 2007.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Hull City have confirmed that Aaron Mclean will miss Saturday’s home game against Burnley through suspension.

The striker collected his fifth yellow card of the campaign in the weekend win at Derby County to incur an automatic one-match ban.

His previous bookings came against Nottingham Forest, Watford, Doncaster Rovers and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Barnsley, meanwhile, have completed the loan signing of Nile Ranger from Newcastle. The 20-year-old’s move, which will keep the striker at Oakwell until January 14, went through yesterday to leave the way clear for his debut against Leeds United at Elland Road this weekend.

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said: “Nile needs to go out on loan and needs regular games to help his development as a footballer.

“He has real talent, the time is right for him to go out and play, and Barnsley have a very good player for a couple of months.”

In League One, Sheffield Wednesday captain Rob Jones will have to sit out the weekend visit of Leyton Orient after collecting his fifth booking of the season in the 2-1 win at Tranmere.

Victory for the Owls would be enough to move up to second place due to rivals Huddersfield Town not being in action until Monday night at leaders Charlton Athletic.
