Burton Albion 0 Doncaster Rovers 3: Dickov’s regard for Trophy is rewarded

Strikes from Harry Forrester and Richie Wellens plus Nathan Tyson’s penalty secured Rovers’ passage with boss Paul Dickov showing a refreshingly high regard for the competition.

Two of his three changes were enforced by international call-ups with a senior debut for 18-year-old Mitchell Lund the only real notable switch.

After a patient start Rovers moved through the gears, starting with a goal on 33 minutes. Forrester began the move, sending the ball out wide to James Coppinger whose chip into the area was headed out by Ian Sharps. But Forrester pounced, chesting the ball down and drilling in from 10 yards.

The second came as a gift when Tyson was needlessly hacked down in the box by John Mousinho three minutes before the break before dusting himself down to slot home the penalty.

Burton started the second half strongly with Jacob Blyth missing two glorious chancess.

Just as it appeared as though the game was petering out, Rovers grabbed a third. Theo Robinson laid the ball off for Wellens who raced into the box and clipped a shot over Dean Lyness.
