Cardiff City v Doncaster Rovers: Rovers fear Earnshaw backlash

DONCASTER goalkeeper Gary Woods is concetrned Cardiff City striker Robbie Earnshaw will be looking to make amends today for his Wembley howler.

Welsh international Earnshaw missed an open goal against England in midweek after coming on as substitute in the Euro 2012 qualifier. England held on for a 1-0 victory and Earnshaw was singled out for flak in the national press.

“Missing a chance like that, he’s not going to be happy,” said Woods. “He’s going to want to put things right and, unfortunately, that’s against us and we have to be wary of that.”

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay is confident that Earnshaw will bounce back as Cardiff seek to increase the pressure on bottom-of-the-table Rovers.

“He was in training the following day, we had a laugh about it, and he then went and banged in five goals,” said Mackay. “The guys that are like that miss plenty but they are in the right place at the right time to score plenty as well.

“He knows he will score again for Wales and he’ll score again for us.”
