Coppinger and Sharp still on Ipswich radar

IPSWICH Town manager Paul Jewell is not ruling out a fresh move for Doncaster Rovers duo Billy Sharp and James Coppinger.

Rovers rejected a £2.3m bid for Sharp and a £300,000 offer for Coppinger from Ipswich in the summer and are now under mounting pressure to reduce the £8m wage bill at the Keepmoat Stadium.

“They’re both good players and we’re always looking to improve our squad,” said Jewell, ahead of today’s clash between the two clubs. “It’s well documented we bid for the two of them but we couldn’t prise them away because the chairman didn’t want to sell. They put money on their heads that we thought was silly so we never discussed terms with the players. But I don’t think it’s right for us to comment on other teams’ players,” he added. “They’re Doncaster Rovers players and they’re fully committed to Doncaster.”

Sharp, also wanted by Southampton, made a goalscoring return for Rovers in midweek just three days after the death of his newborn son.
