Paul Dickov’s men had built up a head of steam in the race for the League One play-offs, winning three and drawing four of their seven games going into the home game with Walsall.

Although Dickov would like to have turned a couple of those draw into further wins, the abject loss to fellow play-off chasers Walsall on Saturday is one he wishes to forget.

“We were lacklustre on Saturday, and you get those games, but fortunately they’ve been few and far between for us,” said the Rovers boss, whose side are within two positive results of the play-off places despite being in the bottom half.

“We’ve had too many draws, but the performance levels have been very good.

“We have to get back to being hard to beat, and to start keeping clean sheets again.

“We’ve got players that will create, and our base recently has been to be defensively sound which we’ve managed to do.

“As long as we’re in touching distance of the play-offs going into the last month I’ll be happy, because you get nothing for being in sixth in February.”

James Coppinger and Luke McCullough are both out tonight with muscle strains.
